The Irish-Americans
March 13, 2009
The Irish and America has always been attached, for from the first, they landed at Jamestown in 1607! And from that point on the Irish played a vital role in the creation and development of a great nation, United States of America!
The irish dug the canels that brought water to some of our largest cities, because the planters felt it was too dangerous for their slaves to do it, ” get the Irish to do it”
The Irish fought for the Independence of this great nation, assisted in it’s defense in the war of 1812, dunning our civil war the Irish fought to UNITE the nation and their were those who fought for their state’s rights. To say the least the Irish have bleed and died for this great country of ours.
The Irish laid the foundation for many of our great cities, they help laid the railroads that crisscross our great nation, They have added volumes to our nation’s literary library. They have helped to build the American Catholic church, giving this great nation many of it’s great spiritual leaders.Throughout the course of this nation the Irish have given us many of our great political leaders. For it is a fact that on every yellowing page of our nation’s history we will find the touch of the Irish, there is not one city or state that we will not find an Irish footprint.
So now when the Irish in Northern Ireland calls for the support of the Irish-American communities, the call sames to fall on deaf ears. For when the Irish made this call it was a call to support peace, it was a call to support ” Irish Unity” so it boggles the mind to think why?
We, Americans had assisted in bringing the peace to Northern Ireland, for the past 11 years, but now that peace is beginning to crack , it could be the support of the Irish-American community’s support that very well maybe the motal that mends those cracks and brings lasting Peace though Irish Unity!
